Embroidery Projects

The silk embroideries by Herat

2007, the plan for another embroidery program was conceived near Herat. Since it was not intended to compete with the first embroidery program, rectangles, rather than squares, were commissioned.

Furthermore, the embroidery was to be done with silk threads: Khamakdusi (12.5 x 6.5 cm) and Keshide (4 x 6 cm). The women no longer embroidered for their own use, but quickly relearned the skill. Since they no longer had any of their old patterns, photos were sent to them from Germany!

Karte Afghanistans

Afghanistan is a country of mountains and deserts and has no access to the sea.

Laghmani is located in Parwan Province and is surrounded by mountains, while Herat is practically at the edge of the desert.

Kabul Province lies directly south of Parwan Province.

From Kabul, you can reach Herat with a direct flight of 1 hour and 25 minutes.

The cotton embroidery from Laghmani

Laghmani consists of a group of several villages in the Parwan province, north from Kabul. The women embroider squares (8 x 8 cm) and other shapes over the entire surface and are free to choose the colours and motifs. They produce unique pieces of embroidery.

Materials, fabric and coton threads, are provided for them.
