The silk embroideries by Herat

2007, the plan for another embroidery program was conceived near Herat. Since it was not intended to compete with the first embroidery program, rectangles, rather than squares, were commissioned.

Furthermore, the embroidery was to be done with silk threads: Khamakdusi (12.5 x 6.5 cm) and Keshide (4 x 6 cm). The women no longer embroidered for their own use, but quickly relearned the skill. Since they no longer had any of their old patterns, photos were sent to them from Germany!

The embroiderers continue to create traditional graphic designs based on the 30° grid; however, they have also turned to figurative motifs.

Currently, the mountain motifs are being offered for an exhibition project by the Swiss patchwork guild patCHquilt.
