Exhibitions

This exhibition presents 5 ancient Susanis (wall hangings from Uzbekistan), whose embroiderystitch is the romanian stitch. This particular stitch, pokhtadusi in Farsi, is mainly performed by the embroidery women from Parwan. Contemporary Susanis from our embroidery program, based on printed fabrics, offer a striking contrast. A serie of quilts with incorporated floral embroiderymotifs makes visible how flowers there and here find favor.

This exhibition can be loaned.

Keep your Eye on the Planet

The challenge for the "Keep Your Eye on the Planet" competition was to incorporate an embroidered eye or pair of eyes into a 60 x 60 cm textile artwork, interpreting the multifaceted theme in the process. 113 entries were submitted from 12 European countries. The three jury members selected 45 textile works. Ecological aspects were a central focus of many of these pieces, particularly the ocean, which covers two-thirds of the Earth's surface. A deep concern for one's fellow human beings is expressed in several works.

HAND in HAND

Hands… giving, taking, asking, praying, speaking, showing, greeting, caring, pampering, and so much more. They are both violent and delicate, they can be shaped artistically, they create art.

The Afghan Amulet

The exhibition presents the 50 works selected from the latest European competition, "The Afghan Amulet." Each work includes at least one silk embroidery in the shape of a triangle from the Herat region. All textile techniques are represented (hand and machine, patchwork, embroidery, mixed media, felt, and others). These works, inspired by European artists, demonstrate the potential for a connection between two cultures: Afghan and European.

You can appreciate a little choice.

This exhibition can be loaned.

Fishes and more colorfull Fishes

Afghan Women and Fishes

Strange, strange indeed, fish in Afghanistan! This idea might seem absurd at first glance. This decidedly mountainous country has no sea, yet it was precisely the combination of different ideas that led to this theme being proposed for the 2025 "Pour l'Amour du Fil" competition in Nantes.

a Tulip is a Tulip is a Tulip

This small exhibition presents approximately 50 works in a size of about 40 × 40 cm. It is aimed at European women and men who are closely connected with Guldusi — directly in Freiburg-Germany or at trade fairs — or at those who have managed the organization of the presentation of an exhibition.

This extensive creative series is complemented by a small series of antique embroideries with some tulip motifs; these were acquired at the antiquarian market in Kabul.

A large banner was embroidered by Lomja in Afghanistan with the title of the exhibition.

If I were a Bird

Like flowers, bird motifs in embroidery are part of Afghan tradition. Many families keep birds in cages. In Kabul's bazaar, which is almost a district in itself, there is an entire alley dedicated solely to birds.

Perhaps they are a symbol of freedom, a theme that is very close to the hearts of Afghans, as their own freedom has been restricted for over 40 years, and women's freedom in particular has been arbitrarily revoked.
