Djinns

The encounter with Edith Raymond, the Grande Dame of Paris and her hand embroidery led to a joint project that we were able to present on a common platform in Paris as part of the Créations & Savoir-Faire 2024 fair.
You can discover Edith’s work here.
I introduced Edith’s embroidery to some of the embroiderers and referred to them as djinns – those beings known in many cultures as good or evil spirits. The belief in spirits predates the introduction of Islam, which tolerates this original belief, which is still present today.
I asked the embroiderers to represent their own djinns, although the term is abstract. The first delivery consisted of copies of Edith’s embroidery, after which I stopped the request and explained the expectation again. After that, personal interpretations of the djinns emerged.
