Tshokletdusi

Tshokletdusi

Read this word slowly, does it sound familiar? What could it mean? We know the meaning of ‘dusi’ already, but ‘tshoklet’?

Say it slowly again … tshoklet. Yes, you got it, Tshokletdusi means chocolate embroidery!

The inhabitants of the small Afghan villages don’t eat chocolate, because it is very expensive and doesn’t keep well, but they use the word for boiled sweets such as the wrapped toffees imported from Russia that are served together with tea, dried fruit and other sweets.

I couldn’t resist the urge to share my pleasure in the delights of Tshokletdusi with this series of fourteen embroideries ranging from geometrical patterns to figurative images, all featuring sweets.
