The idea of the network immediately sprang to mind in this context. I have taken up the herringbone stitch used by the Afghan woman and used it to stitch my own network, asking myself how much of a net was needed before it would start to imprison the flowers. I suppose this is always a challenge: how to preserve the object’s playful and joyful character in spite of limitations.
