All the threads are supplied to the embroiderers thanks to the sponsorship of Madeira Threads. The amount depends on the number of squares the women are supposed to create and varies from one woman to another. The supplies are packed in Freiburg and include a wide range of colours. In response to their wishes the women are now receiving 10m of black and 10m of red thread to frame their embroidery. Other colours are distributed randomly and include vivid colours and pastel shades. When I meet the women I am often asked for brighter, almost vitriolic colours. It is important to reach a compromise between their favourite vivid colours and our European tastes.
